Vice-President for Responsible Transformation, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and Professor in Life Sciences

Gisou van der Goot was appointed Vice-President at EPFL in January 2021, to set up a new Vice-Presidency dedicated to Equality-Diversity&Inclusion as well as all aspects of Sustainability. She previously was the Dean of the School of Life Sciences for 7 years. She has been a professor at EPFL since 2006. She is leading a research lab which focuses on infectious and genetic diseases as well as basic understanding of how cells are organized and communicate with their environment. Her research has been recognized in Switzerland, where she was the first woman to receive the Prix Marcel Benoist.


Gisou was previously a professor at the University of Geneva, which she joined in 1993, first at the Faculty of Sciences and subsequently at the Faculty of Medecine. 


She holds an Engineering degree from the Ecole Central Paris (now Centrale Supelec) and a PhD in Molecular Biophysics from University Paris VI (now Pierre et Marie Curie Univ.)
