Campaign 2021 Claudia Gasser - We advance

How I got here

Never give up and follow the path persistently, don’t let yourself be put off by setbacks.

Claudia Gasser, Regional Director & Head Wealth Management Central Switzerland at UBS Switzerland

What was your dream career as a girl?

As a child, I had several interests and dream careers, from a racing driver or astronaut to becoming a psychologist. I started studying psychology at university before switching my degree to follow my passion in banking and finance (which involves more psychology than some people might think). Cars have remained a hobby, only astronautics has been reduced to nostalgically gazing at the stars.

What was your aha-moment when you realized that gender stereotypes may (or do) have an impact on your career development?

How did you deal with it?

A career should be chosen based on skills and passions – regardless of gender. When I studied Banking & Finance at University, I was one of very few women. The next challenge was entering the banking industry, which is still very much a man’s world in Switzerland.

Reaching your career aspirations does not only require doing a great job and going the extra mile, but as a woman you need to be even more vocal about your career aspirations and achievements to ensure that incorrect assumptions are not being made and you are being viewed and treated as an equal partner.

What is your number 1 advice for career aspiring women?

Follow your dreams and be confident in who you are and what you can do. Don’t be put off by set-backs or gender-specific expectations from the outside. Stay on your path and don’t give up as you will find a way to make it happen.
