Women in Swiss business still continue to fall off the promotion ladder. Join us to hear how to re-design the promotion process of your company to give women a real chance to climb higher.

Practical advice on what companies can do to design a fair promotion process

With this event, we are launching Advance’s 3rd Whitepaper in cooperation with McKinsey, which explores why female leaders are still promoted under-proportionately and gives recommendations on what companies can do to fix the broken promotion ladder for women.

Women make excellent leaders. Research shows female managers tend to drive both bottom line performance through enhanced creativity, innovation, and productivity (source: ILO) and employee wellbeing (source: McKinsey). Yet, while women outnumber men in the global and Swiss tertiary education system, as soon as they enter the workforce, women start struggling to climb the promotion ladder. Specifically, while women hold 44 percent of non-managerial roles in Switzerland, by the time they make it to top management, this share drops to 17 percent (source: Advance & HSG GIR 2022).

This phenomenon has a complex set of causes, including the challenges women face in reconciling their work and childcare responsibilities as well as structural and cognitive biases throughout the promotion process.

Join us to delve into this new Whitepaper based on McKinsey research representing 600 working female managers in Switzerland, and hear from Biogen, a company that has successfully put measures in place to fix the ladder.

join us for this moderated & interactive session to

  • get latest research-based insights on the reasons that hold women back
  • understand how bias – from both decision makers and women – contributes to more promotions going to men
  • discover a clear and practical approach on what works to fix the broken rungs
  • share what is working to de-bias the promotion process in your company
  • engage in a lively Q&A with your peers

This workshop targets D&I professionals, HR and Business Leaders with a responsibility and the drive to effectively shape gender equality and their corporate culture.
